Hasting Resources Update

Fellow SRI Members and Residents,

Please find below an update regarding the status of Hastings Resource’s Exploration Plan.

As some of you may know Hastings Resources was granted a new Exploration Plan (Permit) in July 2019 for their exploration land bounded by Highway 620, Highway 62, Steenburg Lake Road North and Old Hastings Road.

The new Exploration Plan and the status of that plan is as follows, essentially Hastings Resources has gone back to the beginning of the process, which is as follows:

  • Establishing Test Data
  • Securing Financing (similar to Pancon)
  • Securing a resource development partner (similar to Pancon)
  • Develop consultations with local communities
  • Develop consultations with local Indigenous Community (Alderville First Nation)
  • Meet the timelines of ENDM’s Exploration Plan Process (Plan is valid for 2 years)
  • Develop an Environmental Plan that meets the standard of the Environment Ministry and can stand up to scientific review by an un-related third party.

The SRI continues to work with the Lake Association Task Force (Steenburg Lake, Wollaston Lake, Limerick Waterways, Thanet Lake, Tri-Lakes and Sweets Lake) to lobby all levels of government (municipal, provincial and federal) to show that this type of development is not consistent with our area. Also, to develop an economic review that shows the positive benefit of tourism and the cottage industry in our area. Work with local media to show any potential investors that this type of development is not economically or logistically feasible in this area.

Our belief (The Lake Association Task Force) is that based on historical business practices and actions, Hastings Resources is un-likely to secure financial backing from a resource development partner and we need to stick to the plan to ensure they do not.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the above information, please feel free to contact any SRI Board member for further information.
